Crystals: The New Addition to Your Spa and How to Get Started.

If you know me then you know I love crystals. I keep them in my home, spa and even in my treatment room. I love them for their beauty and their energy. I thought I would have my friend and fellow Esthetician, Alex Sands, owner of Skin Craft break down why crystals are so amazing as well as how to get started. She offers custom curated crystal boxes that are amazing for home + spa. If you are interested in getting on her waitlist head HERE. xoxo Kasey

Crystals: The New Addition to Your Spa and How to Get Started.

It all started almost 4 years ago when my now best friend started telling me about crystals and her love for them. This topic was foreign to me at the time, but I was very intrigued. This newfound knowledge was just the beginning of my understanding of them, which ultimately led to my love and everyday use of crystals.

I like to think back to my childhood and using one of those rock tumbler machines. You could put any rock, gravel, etc. into this machine, and within a handful of hours, a lovely, polished stone would appear! I loved it. It was the coolest thing and always lit up my inner child. Fast forward to today, and you can find crystals practically everywhere! In fact, they've taken off in popularity so much that even spas are starting to incorporate these precious minerals into their treatment process. Here are some tips on getting started with crystals, how to select them, care for them, and use them in your treatment room!

Where to buy crystals?

Ideally, you should purchase crystals from a business that you know and trust. Since crystals have grown in popularity, a lot of vendors are creating "glass" or "plastic" stones and selling them as the real deal. To avoid buying fake stones, I would advise against purchasing from any big box stores. Instead, support your local businesses or check out Etsy. These tend to be the most trustworthy and genuine in my experience!

What crystals should I buy?
I love it when I get this question from friends and clients! This is what I tell them: The right crystal will pick you! What does this mean? I suggest buying crystals blindly with no knowledge of their meanings beforehand. This can be done by leading with what draws you in visually and emotionally. Just like shopping for clothes! You may have an idea of what you're looking for, but then you see that one dress that caught your eye from across the room. Then you try it on, and it makes you feel amazing! You can shop the same way for crystals. Allow your eyes to be drawn in by their appearance. If you're shopping in person, pick it up and notice how it makes you feel. If you get excited, and it lights you up, this means it's for you! If you have a more neutral feeling with one, it more than likely means it's not a perfect match. Once you've made your selection, you can look up each of the meanings of the crystals. You'll be surprised at the messages they have for you!

Okay, but what if I can't shop in person or I worry that I won't "feel" anything? What are some basic starter crystals?
Not to worry! Connecting with the energy of a crystal can take time, and some people just want a crystal that looks pretty. These are some of my favorite crystals to start with:
Clear Quartz
Rose Quartz
Amethyst
Citrine
Obsidian
Selenite
Tigers Eye

How do I care for my crystals?

Caring for your crystals is easy! Upon purchasing, you'll want to cleanse and charge them. Cleansing your crystals allows previous energy to be removed from them, which allows them to connect with your energy and the intentions you set for them. You can do this with sage, sunlight, moonlight, or water. I find sage to be the easiest method as some stones will fade with prolonged sun exposure, as well as dissolve in water. Charging your crystals can be done by pairing them with a self-cleansing and charging stone, such as selenite, or by placing them under the full moon each month.

Great! So how can I incorporate them into my spa and/or treatments?
I've found this is where people get stuck because they worry they will do it wrong or don't have enough knowledge to start. Don't let this hinder you! You have everything you need within you to get started. Use your intuition to guide you! Maybe you have a handful of small stones, and you'd like to incorporate them into your treatments. Start by simply laying the stones on your client's décolleté, face, or stomach at a certain point in your treatment. Masking or massage is my favorite time to utilize my crystals! Don't overthink which stone or where to place it—lead with your intuition. The one(s) you use will always be the right ones. Some simple ways to incorporate crystals into your treatments can be by the use of a facial roller, face mask, gua sha, or even a crystal comb for a relaxing scalp treatment.

At the end of the day, crystals are meant to be fun and used as a tool to enhance the feeling and energy of your space or treatment! Don't let fear stop you from exploring this realm of possibilities. Should you need assistance or want to purchase crystals for your business, you can find Curated Crystal Boxes on my online store. Upon purchasing a box, I will send you a questionnaire to help guide me when shopping for crystals specifically for your budget, intended uses, and wishes. I finish up the process by cleansing and charging them for you, so they are ready to use upon arrival!

I hope this guide on crystals gave you some clarity and confidence when going forward with using them in your daily life or treatments. And remember—you have everything within you to get started!

xoxo,
Alex Sands
