How Think Week Helped Me Reset and Boost Focus

How Think Week Helped Me Reset and Boost Focus

2022… I am coming for YOU. I feel so refreshed and recharged! I took a much-needed break from social media and technology last week, and in today’s blog, I want to reflect a bit more on that.

You may have heard the term “Think Week” but what exactly does it mean and how can you do it for yourself? Before I dive into my experience with Think Week, let’s break down what it even means…

In short - this is a “seven-day retreat” concept created by Bill Gates where you turn off all distractions and dedicate time to think and read. Simple as that. Bill Gates actually takes two weeks out of every year where he turns off all technology and spends days of solitude in a cabin in the first. Yes, I’m serious.

Now, you don’t have to take Think Week to extreme measures like Bill Gates. But, a Think Week on your own terms and rules can be really beneficial. I know it was for me. Okay, now that we covered what Think Week means, let me share my personal experience with you and how you can have your very own Think Week!

Here’s how I created my very own Think Week:

  • I dedicated 5 days to turning off social media and turning off all distractions
  • No screens, no phones (and yes, that means no Instagram or Tik Tok), no iPad (exception: I did use my iPad just for my daily workouts and stretches), and NO TV!
  • I used this time to focus on creative fun projects around the house, picked up a few good books, cleaned and prepped the spa for 2022, did some cooking around the kitchen, connected back with myself and my body through daily yoga and stretches, and spent quality time with the dog and Brandon.

*Side note: I also decided to cut out drinking and made more of a conscious effort to eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Makes a world of a difference!

The benefits that Think Week gave me:

  • A BOOST in productivity
  • A burst of energy
  • A clear mind and fresh perspective for the new year
  • I feel calmer and excited about the next moves for my life and my business

My top tips for you to make your own Think Week:

  • Before you go on your Think Week, let everyone around you know. Take this very seriously and don’t just disappear randomly for a week. Decide on the dates for your Think Week, mark it on the calendars, and stick to it!
  • Create a plan for how you’ll spend your Think Week. Think about what hobbies you want to get back into or potential projects you want to spend your week doing. Maybe brainstorm a few good books you’ve been meaning to read!
  • Set boundaries! Decide what you need to cut out during Think Week and stick to it - whether that’s alcohol, technology, or watching TV.
  • Enjoy. And be present in your Think Week. When you’re truly alone with just you and your thoughts, it can be a magical thing. I think we easily forget how important it is to spend time with ourselves these days with all of the distractions and technology around us… so enjoy this time!

I will ABSOLUTELY be doing this at least once a year moving forward, if not more. If you have not taken your own Think Week, I highly recommend doing so.

But remember, you don’t have to follow the exact steps I did, or even follow Bill Gates. My best advice? Make it your own! The most important thing is to find a space where you can sit with your own thoughts and cut out distractions… however that looks for you, do it!

Let me know if you’ll be trying Think Week or if you’ve tried it before and what your experiences were, I’d love to hear from you. Now, let’s get back to work! Can’t wait to see what this year has in store.

Until next time,

xoxo

Kasey
